Music & Stories from World War II
My name is Caleb Schneider, and I’m 13 years old. I have three passions: Aviation, Military History, and Big Band Music. After attending a Glenn Miller Orchestra concert in Atlanta, I asked my dad if there were any local radio stations that played Big Band music. There were no Big Band music radio stations in Atlanta, and just a handful nationwide. So, I decided to start my own radio station and call it, G.I. Jive Radio. I secured the call letters WGIJ and researched all the rules and regulations required by ASCAP, BMI, DMCA, and FCC to make sure that I was compliant. I must adhere to the same rules and regulations the big AM/FM radio stations do. I then found a company that would broadcast my radio station, and the rest is history!
G.I. Jive Radio is a bit different from other Big Band music radio stations because not only do I play the best Big Band music from the 1930s and 1940s, but I add a touch of military history throughout the day. While listening, you will not only hear occasional commercials and PSAs from the 1930s and 1940s, but you will also hear special news reports and interviews from WWII. You will also hear a short History in a Minute segment that I record weekly that shares what happened that same week during WWII. Three times a week, you can listen to original wartime broadcasts like Wings to Victory, Command Performance, and FDR Fireside Chats. Our amazing premier sponsor, the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force, produces a weekly segment called, Mail Call: Wartime Letters of the Mighty Eighth, where you can listen to real letters from real Mighty Eighth airmen mailed home to loved ones during WWII.
Another thing that sets G.I. Jive Radio apart from other big band music radio stations is I have a very active Facebook page where I interact with all my listeners. You can follow me as I travel around and visit different military museums and points of interest.
I really hope you enjoy my radio station and tune in regularly.
Caleb
